He married Grace C. (Sims) Ray before 1904 (estimated from her oldest son Walter H. Ray). Grace was born about 1882 ^[1] in Arkansas. ^[1] Her father was born in Tennessee, ^[1] and her mother was born in Mississippi

He worked in Real Estate in 1917-1918.

The 1930 US Census for Idabel, OK shows Grace C. Ray as head of household with James Ray at 16 years old at last birthday, making this James Ray compatible with James B Ray’s age. It also shows James as born in OK, while his parents are from Arkansas, matching what is known about James B Ray. Grace C. is also reported as Walter L Ray’s spouse by Oran Stroud Lanham.

They have the following children: James B Ray.

(i.) Son, Walter H Ray , was born in 1905 ^[1] at Oklahoma.

(ii.) Son, James B Ray , was born 1913 at Idabel, Oklahoma. ^[1]

(iii.) Son, Billy Ray , was born in 1915 ^[1] at Oklahoma.
