Thomas Edmonson HEAD was born [1] on 20 Jan 1829 in ,,Georgia, USA. He died on 20 Nov 1884 in Springfield,, Alabama, USA. He was buried in Old Salem Cemetery, Roanoke, Randolph, Alabama.
His Confederate Military Record states, "Head, Thomas E., Rank: Lt., Enlistment: Randolph Co., Alabama, Command: Company A, 2nd Battalion (later 59th Ala Regiment), Authority: Recorroll signed at Montgomery, Alabama, Apr 5, 1862".
He served in the Alabama State Legislature 1880-1881. He ran a cotton gin and served as sheriff in the Rock Mills-Springfield area.
He hanged himself in 1884. The following article appeared in the newspaper at the time of Thomas Edmonson Head’s death:
Hon. Thomas E. Head lived in High Shoals beat and was a farmer, Democrat and about 50 years of age. Tom was a first rate, good and clever citizen and neighbor. His death was very sudden, and thought to have been voluntary and of his own free will. He was an old citizen and universally loved and respected for his quiet, peaceable and neighborly traits. It is on of those unaccountable mysteries which probably will never be known by the public.
Thomas married Mary Caroline HEAD daughter of William HEAD and Sarah Moon Blugrave WALKER. Mary was born [1] on 28 Nov 1836. She died on 24 Jul 1901. She was buried in Old Salem Cemetery, Roanoke, Alabama.
They had the following children:
(i.) Sara Luticia HEAD was born [1] on 17 Jul 1854 in , Fulton, Georgia, USA. She died in Texas, USA. Sara married [1] Edward M. HARRIS.
(ii.) Son, James Buchanan HEAD was born [1] on 28 Nov 1856 in , Randolph, Alabama, USA. He died on 12 Apr 1941. He was buried in Beulah Cemetery, Randolph, Alabama, USA.
iii. Robert F. HEAD was born [1] on 17 Jul 1860. Robert married Mary Arnette (maiden name unknown).
(iv.) Son, Thomas Zacheriah HEAD was born [1] on 21 Dec 1862. He died [1] on 11 Apr 1937 in Tuscaloosa,, Alabama, USA. He had 7 children. Thomas married [1] (1) Belle STITT on 19 Jan 1886. Belle was born [1] on 18 Aug 1866. She died [1] on 23 Jul 1884. Thomas married [1] (2) Ava Ann REID daughter of Major Bennet Jefferson REID and Elizabeth C. SWINT on 31 Dec 1891. Ava was born [2] on 01 May 1869. She died [1] on 28 Jul 1963.
(v.) Son, William Richard HEAD was born on 19 Apr 1866. He died [1] on 10 Jun 1950. He was buried in Lebanon Cemetery, Roanoke, Randolph, Alabama, USA. William married Mary Rebecca (Mollie) PITTMAN on 11 Oct 1891. Mary was born on 22 Dec 1871. She died [1] on 22 May 1915. She was buried in Lebanon Cemetery, Roanoke, Randolph, Alabama, USA.
(vi.) John LaFayette HEAD was born [1] on 30 May 1868. He died [2] on 24 Dec 1896. He was buried in Beulah Cemetery, Randolph, Alabama, USA.
(vii.) Son, Jefferson Davis HEAD was born [1] on 30 Apr 1871. He died on 08 Feb 1938. He was buried in Rock Springs Church Cemetery, Randolph, Alabama, USA. Jefferson married Florence Isabella GLADNEY [1] on 29 Nov 1891. Florence was born on 19 Apr 1872. She died [1] on 05 Sep 1949. She was buried in Rock Springs Church Cemetery, Randolph, Alabama, USA.
(viii.) Son, Allen Calhoun HEAD was born on 02 Jul 1873. He died [1] on 24 Jul 1934. He was buried in Paron Cemetery, Randolph, Alabama, USA. Allen married Abie GRISHEM. Abie was born on 21 Nov 1879. She died on 13 Oct 1917. She was buried in Paron Cemetery, Randolph, Alabama, USA. They had three children, James B. Head, W. Comer Head, and Eulalia Head.
