According to the Perry Rufus Jones family tradition, Andrew Jackson Kitchens was a farmer until he married Martha Jane Pope. Then he became a merchant and did quite well. He was the joint owner of the cotton mill in Roanoke, AL with Henry Knight.

Andrew married Martha Jane POPE daughter of John Nathaniel POPE and Edney Ann (Edna) NAIL on 04 Feb 1872 in Heard Co., Georgia, USA. Martha was born on 15 Dec 1849 in Henry, Georgia, USA. She died on 07 Nov 1939 in Texas, Heard, Georgia, USA.

Andrew and Martha had the following children:

JONES ^{[2] [3]} son of Alfred Nolen JONES I and Martha Prudence WOOD on 21 Sep 1889 in Newnan, Coweta, Georgia, USA. Lazarus was born ^[4] on 06 Aug 1869 in Texas, Heard, Georgia, USA. (iii.) Son, Rufus A. KITCHENS was born in 1877 in Georgia, USA.

(iv.) Daughter, Edna Alice KITCHENS was born in 1879.
